The Labour Party (EMEP) of Turkey and Communist Liberation of Greece have issued a joint anti-war internationalist declaration in support of solidarity and the common struggles of peoples against the competition of bourgeois classes and the arms race in both countries. They oppose the Greece-Cyprus-Israel axis and Turkey’s military interventions in Syria, Iraq, and Libya.
At a time when the bourgeois political forces in both countries—behind the façade of “calm waters”—are deepening the logic of competition and nationalism, and while wars, massacres (such as in Palestine), and war preparations become the new norm of capitalism in our era, EMEP and Communist Liberation are choosing a different path.

JOINT DECLARATION
Labour Party – EMEP (Turkey)
Communist Liberation (Greece)
The imperialists are redrawing the world’s map and borders through war and force to serve their interests. War and the use of force—as a “continuation of politics by other means”—are the primary tools for resolving rivalries and differences between capitalist states.
At the same time, governments and capitalists are constantly redistributing wealth upward to the ruling class at the expense of the working class and the majority of society, further deepening inequality. Tax cuts for the bosses, stagnant wages, inflation, and the erosion of democratic institutions go hand in hand with the intensified exploitation of workers. Authoritarianism, repression, and violence align perfectly with capitalism’s aggressive nature.
The global arms race has escalated into a frenzy, driven by capitalist interests. The struggle for global domination has undeniably entered a phase of open war, and the push for “war economies” worldwide is clear evidence of this. Money that “could not be found” for public health, education, fair wages, or pensions is suddenly abundant when it comes to weapons and war machines.
Trump’s policies have already unleashed a wave of conflict. It is dangerous—or at least naive—to assume that trade wars will not escalate into larger conventional wars. Even the threat of nuclear war looms on the horizon.
Turkey and Greece are actively complicit in this new cycle of violence, collaborating with their respective imperialist allies. Their governments push a nationalist and aggressive agenda to mask their true goals: expanding their spheres of influence in the region and maximizing profits for capitalists. The Greek-Cypriot-Israeli axis and Turkey’s military interventions in Syria, Iraq, and Libya are dangerous developments that target the oppressed peoples of the region and the working class in each country.
The threat of armed conflict in our region remains grave and imminent. However, we firmly maintain that this rivalry—on both sides of the Aegean—is unjust and harms the peoples of Turkey, Greece, and the broader region.
In this context, we declare:
- We fight for Greece and Turkey’s exit from NATO and the dissolution of all military alliances, including those promoted within the EU.
- We demand an immediate end to the Israeli occupation of all Palestinian territories, the release of all political prisoners, and the unconditional right of return for Palestinian refugees.
- We support the right of all oppressed peoples—Palestinians, Kurds, Syrians, Lebanese, Yemenis, and others—to self-determination, free from foreign interference.
- We demand a free and united Cyprus, without foreign armies or bases, where Turkish and Greek Cypriots can coexist in peace.
- We will channel all our energy into defending working-class rights, but we refuse to fight for bourgeois interests.
- We oppose the scramble for hydrocarbon reserves in our region, which fuels both conflict and climate destruction. We advocate for a clean and sustainable energy policy.
- As EMEP and Communist Liberation, we commit to building active solidarity and cooperation, knowing that “together we stand, divided we fall.”
- We will seek every opportunity for solidarity with revolutionary and progressive movements across our region, targeting the exploitative ruling classes in each country.
- We see the construction of a united, international anti-war workers’ movement as essential to resisting militarization and overthrowing capitalist war agendas. A truly independent working-class politics must stand apart from all imperialist blocs. A revolutionary workers’ movement can only succeed as an autonomous force fighting against the bourgeoisie, the imperialists, and all imperialist alliances.
