Victory to the people of Peru
Latin America is faced with another parliamentary coup, this time in Peru against its president Pedro Castillo, who was elected after declaring a policy supporting the people. After his overthrow, the answer was given by the people themselves who claim in the streets what Castillo himself could not fulfill, following a compromising policy with the much hated and Peruvian elite, the multinationals and the USA.
The coup government of Dina Boluarte, supported by neoliberals, the extreme right and defectors, declared the country into an emergency status for thirty days, as there are daily clashes with the police and the military, with tens of dead and wounded. Unions, institutions and organisations of the indigenous people called a national strike. In the impoverished South of the country there are occupations of national streets and airports, police stations have been blocked and gone up into flames. In several areas, the piled-up anger of the working people against both historic and contemporary overexploitation by the ruling classes is expressed through the occupation and the burning of the headquarters of the institutions of the bourgeois state, such as public services, the Public Prosecutor’s offices and others.
Τhe coup perpetrators expected a passive reaction, due to Castillo’s compromising stance throughout the whole period he was in office. However, the popular uprising in some parts of the country begins to pose in fact the issue of political power, but in the absence of a perspective independent of the bourgeois class there are limits to such a development.
The dynamic of class struggle in Peru depends on the political unity of workers and farmers in a country with vast wealth, plundered by a minor elite and the multinationals, mainly those in the mining industry. The perspectives of victory of the popular uprising will be defined by smashing the politics of class collaboration, as well as all of those who oppress the Peruvian people.
Latin America is found once again in a period of radicalization, with the emergence of great social movements. Their incorporation within the framework of governmentalism will be on the edge, as long as the social issue remains unresolved. The goal of the pioneering forces of the labour movement in Latin America for the refoundation of the quest for an anticapitalist overturn and communist social liberation is what can make the people of Peru victorious today, the peoples of Latin America, the working class and the poor of the world tomorrow. We send a message of solidarity to the fighting people of Peru and we stand by the pioneering revolutionary forces of the anticapitalist Left in Latin America.
