We defend the right of the Palestinian people to seek freedom. Terror and silencing will not pass
NAR (New Left Current) for Communist Liberation condemns the attempt to terrorize militants of the POI (Independent Workers’ Party) because of its stance in defending the struggle of the Palestinian people for freedom. On Thursday 18 January, masked men in black occupied the street and pavements in front of the POI headquarters in Paris, where the newspaper Informations Ouvrières is also housed. On the same day, a conference was planned at the POI headquarters with the participation of members of La France Insoumise and Jean-Luc Mélenchon as a speaker. Before the start of the conference and for almost half an hour, this group of people tried to block the passage in front of the entrance to the offices, swearing and threatening. Hiding behind their masks, they held Israeli flags in support of Netanyahu and the genocide of the Palestinian people. This group took over the street without the slightest reaction from the authorities, threatening a workers’ organisation which acts without masks and expresses itself clearly, mainly through its newspaper Informations Ouvrières. The conference went ahead as normal as the POI militants reacted decisively to the threats.
Recently in France, but also in many European countries, there has been an increase in threats and attacks against workers’ organisations and militants defending the Palestinian people, calling for an end to the massacre in Gaza. The attack on the offices of the POI was preceded by threats against members of the CGT and the NRA. Solidarity with the struggle of the people in occupied Palestine is being ‘outlawed’ in Europe by the alliance of liberals, the traditional right, social democrats, the Greens and the far right. The groups that carry out these attacks and threats are often closely linked to the state, taking the right to be aggressive because governments encourage them. The new French foreign minister has declared that there was no genocide in Gaza, while Macron fully embraces the political agenda of the far right.
The State of Israel has the full support of the European far right on a front with the bourgeois parties, as the joint demonstrations “against anti-Semitism” have shown. In fact against these demonstrations were against the right of peoples to fight for their freedom. The political current that has historically been responsible for numerous crimes against Jewish communities in Europe is now the most active exponent of pro-Israeli propaganda against the struggle of the Palestinian people.
The bourgeois parties and the neo-fascist right in Europe see in the Israeli regime the model of the society they wish to implement and in their own countries. Institutionalised racism, nationalism, militarism, religious intolerance, hatred of the poor and excluded. In the face of the Palestinians they see the “inner enemy”, the impoverished refugees, the marginalised immigrants in the European ghettos, the disobedient people fighting against exploitation.
NAR declares its solidarity with the POI militants and with every voice that stands with the Palestinian people in France and Europe against the attempt to silence and terrorize them.
We will continue to fight together against war and capitalism.
Against the governments of capital, imperialism and their tentacles.
